Lynna Hall

Lynna is a local singer-songwriter and performer with several years of experience offering private lessons. Lynna offers private singing and songwriting lessons here at BHAM for beginning, intermediate, and advanced contemporary vocalists. Lynna is professionally trained and has been performing and writing songs since childhood. Lessons include a mixture of technical training, attunement to bodily sensations and emotions, as well as training exercises for the inner-ear. Students are encouraged to embrace their uniqueness and develop their own artistic voice and persona. Lessons are individually tailored to the student’s learning styles and individual goals. Lynna helps students who want to feel ready to record original tunes, perform, or create their own DIY music videos. Students who are highly sensitive or shy about exploring singing and songwriting are always welcome!

Lessons are neurodivergent-friendly. Lynna draws from their lived experience as a neurodivergent artist to create "neurodiversity-friendly" teaching environments. They have worked with neurodivergent music students of all ages, including seniors, and in various settings beyond private lessons leading support groups and creative workshops. Most recently, at the Disability Outreach Center at WWU, Lynna facilitated a queer and neurodivergent support group in addition to providing individual peer support. Also worth mentioning, Lynna had the exciting opportunity to lead a weekly songwriting workshop with neurodivergent and queer students at their former High School, Options... Go Purple Armadillos!

Lessons are gender-inclusive. Lynna is sensitive to students within the queer community who may be navigating changes in their voices during gender-affirming hormone therapy, and understands that music is a holistic part of someone’s overall expression.

Lessons are dementia and senior-friendly. After graduating from WWU, Lynna started a music program at local nonprofit Dementia Support Northwest and assisted in the development of "Amy's Place". They draw upon this experience in facilitating recreational music lessons for seniors that are fun and playful.

Outside of teaching, Lynna enjoys performing original songs in an indie singing duo with their best friend Rachel in lounges and bars all over Bellingham. Lynna is an avid student of life. During their undergrad at WWU, they explored ethnomusicology & music, visual anthropology, creative writing, queer & gender studies, disability studies, linguistics, and more while completing both of their majors at WWU, including an interdisciplinary concentration from Fairhaven College. Lynna approaches life, music, and teaching expansively as well.

Singing is just as much about knowledge and mastery as it is about identity and self-expression. One can say that learning the anatomy and technique of the voice, or the structure of a song is just as important as the creativity and emotion expressed.
